The development of a bending process for various section profiles can expand the range of application areas of a roll forming product. In order to bend hat-section profiles, a new bending process employing incremental forming and local heating is proposed. The effect of the process parameters on bendability related with a shape error was investigated by FE-analyses. Plastic deformation occurs in the local region that can be controlled by the proposed bending process.

3-point bending tests and dynamic plane bending tests were carried out to investigate the bending behaviors of metallic sandwich plates with a sheared dimple core. A mild steel sheared dimple core was bonded with DP590 face sheets by brazing to create a sandwich plate. It was experimentally verified that the bendable sandwich plates were designed to improve the bending characteristics due to capability to prevent the local failures including face buckling, face fracture, core shear failure, and core indentation.
