향토문화축제의 현실과 발전과제-진도의 '신비의 바닷길 축제'를 중심으로

현단계 영등축제의 아이덴티티는 ‘향토문화관광축제’, 라고 볼 수 있겠다. 조수간만의 차가 극심하여 해저에 형성된 사구가 물위로 드러나는 자연현상에 일정한 민속학적 의미를 부여하고, 지역의 다양한 유무형문화재들을 축제 프로그램으로 결합시키면서 표면으로는 ‘문화축제’를 표방하고 있지만 기실 본질에 있어서는 문화관광산업의 한 전형인 것이다. 그리고 이 진도축제는 우리나라 향토문화축제들의 현실이자 현주소이기도 하다. 지역의 지형지물과 민속문화를 원재료로 하여 지역특성을 잘 살린 향토축제들, 다시 말해 지역특화에 성공한 지역축제들일수록 ‘관광상품으로서의 축제’의 성격을 강하게 내포하고 있는 것이다.攀 소리와 녹차를 결합하여 축제를 성공시키고 있는 보성의 ‘다향제’, 농촌 어메니티 즉 농촌의 녹색과 고향의 느낌(향수)를 팔면서 큰 성공을 거두고 있는 함평의 ‘나비축제’ 등 모두 본질에 있어 문화관광축제라 할 수 있다.攀攀 In current society, festivals show a variety of aspects in its necessity, nature, meaning, social and cultural functions, far away from original nature and meaning of festivals. Of course, it is suggested that only natural and inherent aspects of festivals are not meaningful to current people living in advanced industrial society. However, unproductive festivals that emphasize only recreation and events are not welcomed and today’s festivals have to accommodate healthiness derived from natural characteristics of festivals such as communication based on deviation and further refreshing. In such aspect, this study is to trace natural function or meaning of festivals and examine regional festivals as one example of contemporary variations of festivals. Fortunately, since implementation of the local government system, Korean local governments have competitively emphasized development of regional cultures. They seek for methods to improve life quality of community people and to attract their cooperation and unity from regional traditional culture rather than western models. The accommodation of traditional cultural festivals have been conducted in such context. Folk festivals that are based on traditional cultures have their own meanings and functions, which function as a reason to provide cultural identity of each region, as a mechanism to reinforce community unity of the people and as an opportunity to refresh daily life. As well, there is another reason that folk festivals are considered as the most precious cultural assets; the festivals are considered inviting as tourism products in regional economic level of region-centered era. This study analyses “mysterious sea parting of Jindo” that can be a model of the regional festivals that inherit traditional cultural festivals. It is to find problems of regional festivals and present future directions to deal with them effectively.
The Adipogenic Effect of Palmitate in Mouse Bone Marrow-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells

In the present study, we examined the effect of palmitate on adipocyte differentiation in mouse bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Obesity is associated with increased adipocyte differentiation of preadipocytes or MSCs. Free fatty acids (FFAs) have been reported to have an influence on adipogenesis. Thus, the elevated level of FFAs in obese individuals may set off a vicious cycle of events leading to further increased adipogenesis. Palmitate is one of the most abundant FFAs in plasma. The results in this study showed that treatment with palmitate for 3 days, followed by maintenance with insulin for 4 days (palmitate 3d/insulin 4d), induced lipid accumulation and adipocyte protein 2 (aP2) expression in bone marrow-derived MSCs. Our results also showed that treatment with palmitate 3d/insulin 4d induced expressions of adipogenic transcription factors, namely CCAAT enhancer-binding protein (C/EBP) β, C/EBPα, and PPARγ in bone marrow-derived MSCs. In comparison of palmitate with stearate, the levels of lipid accumulation, aP2, and adipogenic transcription factors in cells treated with palmitate 3d/insulin 4d were generally higher than those of cells treated with same concentration of stearate 3d/insulin 4d. Taken together, our results suggest that palmitate is a potent adipogenic FFA that triggers adipocyte differentiation of bone marrow-derived MSCs.
Changes in the Earth’s Spin Rotation due to the Atmospheric Effects and Reduction in Glaciers

The atmosphere strongly affects the Earth’s spin rotation in wide range of timescale from daily to annual. Its dominant role in the seasonal perturbations of both the pole position and spinning rate of the Earth is once again confirmed by a comparison of two recent data sets; i) the Earth orientation parameter and ii) the global atmospheric state. The atmospheric semi-diurnal tide has been known to be a source of the Earth’s spin acceleration, and its magnitude is re-estimated by using an enhanced formulation and an up-dated empirical atmospheric S2 tide model. During the last twenty years, an unusual eastward drift of the Earth’s pole has been observed. The change in the Earth’s inertia tensor due to glacier mass redistribution is directly assessed, and the recent eastward movement of the pole is ascribed to this change. Furthermore, the associated changes in the length of day and UT1 are estimated.
