This study aims to examine the relation between depression and poverty experience in various living areas of the elderly. For this, this study analyzed total 3,311 elderly in their 65 or up by utilizing the data of Korea Welfare Panel Study in 2012-2018. To examine the longitudinal change patterns of depression and to verify the effects of multidimensional poverty experience on these change patterns, the latent class growth analysis and logistic regression analysis were conducted. The main results of this study are as follows. First, total three change patterns of depression of the elderly were classified. They included the ‘normal group’, the ‘mild depression group’ that maintained the mild level of depression, and the ‘serious depression increase group’ who showed the very serious level of depression in the early stage and that was increasing as over time. Second, in the results of analyzing the effects of multidimensional poverty experience on the depression change patterns of the elderly, when there were more poverty experiences in ‘dietary life’, ‘economy’, and ‘health care’, it was highly possible to belong to the ‘mild depression maintenance group’ and ‘serious depression increase group’ than the ‘normal group’. However, the poverty experience in ‘housing’ had significant effects only on the ‘serious depression increase group’. Based on such results of this study, this study discussed the measures for preventing and intervening the depression of the elderly.
