Tumor vascularity is an important indicator for differential diagnosis, tumor growth, and prognosis. Superb micro-vascular imaging (SMI) is an innovative ultrasound technique for vascular examination that uses a multidimensional filter to eliminate clutter and preserve extremely low-velocity flows. Theoretically, SMI could depict more vessels and more detailed vascular morphology, due to the increased sensitivity of slow blood flow. Here, we report the early experience of using SMI in 21 breast cancer patients. We evaluated tumor vascular features in breast cancer and compared SMI and conventional color or power Doppler imaging. SMI was superior to color or power Doppler imaging in detecting tumor vessels, the details of vessel morphology, and both peripheral and central vascular distribution. In conclusion, SMI is a promising ultrasound technique for evaluating microvascular information of breast cancers.

The purpose of this study was to develop culture materials for high school English learners according to the 2015 revised national English curriculum which emphasizes cultivating the global community competence. Prior to developing the materials, the needs of high school students and teachers were analyzed as a base study. Reflecting identified needs of the students and teachers, insufficient materials for teaching culture, the current study developed culture teaching materials based on the models of culture teaching put forward by Moran (2001) and Seelye (1993). The developed materials were evaluated by teachers using a modified McGrath’s (2002) materials evaluation checklist. The evaluation results showed that the developed materials gained high scores(McGrath’s rating scale 5.24/6) in terms of presenting learning activities related to leaning values and ideas of target cultures which helps learners strengthen the global community competence. Furthermore, the developed material scored highly(McGrath’s rating scale 5.84/6) in providing cultural activities that increased learners’ understanding of the target culture as well as its language.

Precise positioning stages are often employed for precise machinery. For the purpose of vibration isolation, these precise positioning stages are mounted on a heavy base structure which is supported by compliant springs. Then the base structure is subjected to residual vibration due to the reactive force and vertical moving load induced by the stage motion. This paper investigates the vibration behavior of a positioning stage base and the associated vibration suppression technique. A dynamic model is developed to investigate the base vibration due to the reactive force and moving load effects by the moving stage. An input shaping technique is also developed to suppress the residual vibrations in base structures. Simulations and experiments show that the developed dynamic model adequately represents the base vibration and that the proposed input shaping technique effectively removes the residual vibrations from the positioning stage base.
