Traditionally, the thorns of Gleditsia sinensis LAM. (GS) have been used for the treatment of various types of cancer and heart, skin, vascular and inflammatory diseases. However, there have been no reports on the antinociceptive or antiinflammatory properties of the thorn of GS. The present study was carried out to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive effects of the ethanolic extract of GS (EEGS) and its sub-fractions. The administration of EEGS (500 mg/kg) or its butanolic fraction (50 and 100 mg/kg) reduced the frequency of the acetic acid-induced writhing reflex in mice. In addition,the administration of the butanolic fraction of EEGS (50 and 100 mg/kg) prolonged the latency of reaction at the hot plate in mice. The butanolic fraction of EEGS also inhibited lipopolysaccharide-induced nitric oxide, prostaglandin E2, and tumor necrosis factor-á production in the RAW 264.7 cell line. These results suggest that EEGS has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties and is a potential therapeutic for inflammation and nociception.

In the present study the membrane filtration characteristics of a commercially available synthetic water-based cutting oil through two kinds of ultrafiltration membranes (HF1-45-CM50 and HF1-43-PM100) with molecular weight cut-offs of 50,000 and 100,000, respectively, have been investigated in detail. Among these membranes, the more hydrophilic one (HF1-45-CM50) was found to show a satisfactory result for both the permeate flux and the permeability, whereas the permeate flux obtained from the other membrane (HF1-43-PM100) appears to be relatively low. The effect of material characteristics of the membrane on the filtration characteristics was found to be much more significant compared with the pore size of the membrane.
초임계 유체 공정을 이용한 약물 봉입 Poly(L-lactide) 미세입자의 제조

5-fluorouracil (5-FU) is a chemotherapeutic agent widely used for the treatment of various solid tumors. In this study, 5-FU was encapsulated in poly(L-lactide) of three different molecular weights using supercritical carbon dioxide. Microparticles containing 5-FU were produced using a supercritical process called aerosol solvent extraction system (ASES). All samples were prepared at 35oC and 130 bar while maintaining the flow rates of solution and carbon dioxide as 0.5 mL/min and 39 g/min, respectively. The effects of solvent composition, drug/polymer ratio and polymer molecular weight on the formation of microparticles and their drug yield and encapsulation efficiency were investigated in detail. The highest yield and encapsulation efficiency were found to be 98.1% and 14.5%, respectively.
