KORAIL is one of the biggest consumer in electric power market so it is necessary to investigate power consumption pattern and optimize power rates. This paper presents simulation program for electric power rates define program based on billing system database. Base on the substation annual power usage DB data, the characteristic of the substation power consumption are investigated and effective electrical billing system are compared each other. Through this program it is verified that we can save more then several hundred million won for a year. Also electric train air condition power consumption was measured to figure the method how to reduce peak energy consumption.

The dropper supports the contact wire and is attached using thimbles and various types of dropper clips on the catenary. Consequently droppers are subject to mechanical loads from friction and buckling during the passage of pantographs. If such mechanical loads occur repeatedly with every passing pantograph, it is possible that the dropper wire will break due to fatigue. In order to investigate failure causes for the high speed line dropper, theoretical analyses and experiments have been carried out. In this paper, mathematical formulas are derived for the prediction of the dropper static load. The measured values in the experiment agree well with the theoretical predictions. And, we performed measurement for the variation of forces on the dropper. To analyze the cause analysis on fracture of dropper wire, we have conducted experiment such as fatigue test of new products, SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) and EDX(Energy Dispersive X-ray) of fractured specimens in the field. Finally, we also measured the vertical displacements when a pantograph moved at 300㎞/h under the Korean high speed overhead line.

This paper presents the operating characteristic of high voltage impulse(HVI) track circuit owing to the ill-contact of impedance bond lead wire. The characteristic operations of the track include rail voltage and current. Measurements are carried out using oscilloscope with current probe and it analyzed the abnormal operation due to connector of protective wire. Finally, suitable track circuit is proposed for conventional line, and operating characteristic of HVI track circuit is affected by bypass circuit.

The Operation of high speed train in year 2004 bring about a great change in railroad industry. Especially in railroad construction field we have acquired great Know-how. And up to now we are building up operation skills. But the high speed train system are totally imported, so it is necessary to investigate some of the equipment based on our own environment. In case of Toughened Glass Stem Insulator, we don"t have any application case in domestic and limited in abroad. So there must be some characteristic estimation. This paper introduces estimation methode in three different field. First electrical field, Second physical field and finally environment circumstance. In Electrical field, amplitude and number of time for abnormal peak voltage data are collected. And in physical field case, amplitude and trend of vibration in to the insulator are examined. And I circumstance case, possibility of flying gravel and ice clod are investigated. Through this basic data, suitability for Toughened Glass Stem Insulator using in domestic will be accumulated and estimated.

Recently, there are increasing social needs for safe operation of trains and comforting for passengers. But lightning surges are responsible for serious disturbances such as damage, permanent degradation or temporary erratic operation of sensitive electronics circuits and systems. The purpose of this paper is to identify the requirements for Surge Protective Devices(SPDs) used in protecting railway signalling system. In this paper, we describes tests and requirements which establish methods for testing SPDs and determining their performance.

This paper introduces method to estimate pollutant negative influence to polymer type insulator according to the international standard. To accomplish this goal, effective sample collecting method was proposed for the first step. Pollutant at the surface was collected directly with the same dimension. Distilled water and brush was used while collecting. Through this method pollute is easily and accurately collected. The second step is pollutant analysis. Several analyze item is selected such as quantity, conductivity, contact angle, Optical Microscope(OM), IR spectrometer(FT-IR), Equivalent Salt Deposit Density(ESDD), Thermal Analyzer(TA) and ICP-AES. The third step, best represent tunnel was selected considering location, length and natural surroundings. Also to consider the difference at inside the tunnel, several bracket insulators were selected along to the location. To make the result precise, above procedure was repeated several times at the same target. Finally relation among type of train, numbers of movement, surroundings, length will be considered in combination with the pollution. With this result pollute map for KORAIL could be accomplished and inspect period will be optimized case by case.
