Vehicle navigation is an essential device in modern life. One of the purposes of this device is to guide a driver with presenting road traffic information fast and safely without impairing driving performance while driving a car. Even if we have many kinds of navigation with various maps, there isn"t still standards to manufacture goods, and a comprehensive evaluation about visibility, aesthetic apperception, and map comprehension during an early manufacturing stage by navigation users. Therefore, this study was planned to evaluate visibility, aesthetic apperception, and map comprehension on a navigation road map with three road colors, three directional arrow colors and widths to help to develop an effective visual UI materialization and assessment standards for an in-vehicle display system. The results indicated that the visibility, aesthetic apperception, and map comprehension on a road map were all statistically significant among each conditions and the interactions were also statistically significant. Finally, we discussed the limitations and the implications of the present study.

Recently, as advanced in IT technology, satellite and terrestrial DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) services were started. A number of drivers who installed telematics devices for watching DMB or traffic information sent by short messages or moving pictures are increasing in consequence. It was obvious that watching DMB during driving a car would distract driver’s visual and cognitive attention. However, there was little empirical research on this topic at home and abroad and the process how it influenced on driving behaviors wasn’t known. Therefore, in this study, we did a simulation experiment for investigating the effect of watching DMB during driving on driving behavior with domestic drivers. Also, we conducted a validity test of the visual occlusion method which was introduced as a distraction test. 24 participants were included in our repeated measured design experiment. We compared three conditions and showed the results. Limitations and implications of results, distraction and the visual occlusion method were discussed.

This paper describes a combined warning system for Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warning based on a single camera. The measurements from a single camera are a relative distance, a relative velocity, a road width, lateral offsets between each tire and each lane boundary and the rate of departure relative to lane boundary. The forward collision warning algorithm computes a warning index and an inverse time to collision in order to detect vehicle-to-vehicle collision. In addition, the lane departure warning algorithm computes a Distance to Lane Crossing(DLC) and a Time to Lane Crossing (TLC) to detect inattentive lane departure. The proposed warning system is investigated via the closed-loop simulation with human driver model Finally, it has been implemented on a test vehicle and tested in real road environment.

Recently products based on in-vehicle display(ex, vehicle navigation, telematics service, DMB, etc.)rapidly expand in market. because of driver for vehicle IT product increase supplying in the demand. Bacause the policy has been focused on limiting the commercial advertisement which has been always core interest of companies, the study on actual driver distraction and efficiency of advertisement has been also limited. Assuming that the commercial advertisement using in-vehicle display system can be allowed in the near future, as a base study for safety and efficiency, a set of experiments with various advertising text was conducted using the vehicle simulator system in KATECH(Korea Automotive Technology Institute). According to it distinguishes to method of efficiency advertisement a plan, in-vehicle will be used to total studying advertisement safety and approval in based on fundermental data.
