English grammarians generally explain the different meanings of different complement structures by means of their intuition. The author, with no intuition, determined the semantic properties of main verbs. The properties allow us to distinguish the meaning difference of Modal (FOR) TO and ING, Modal (FOR) TO and THAT, THAT and ING, THAT and Judgement TO complement structure. Korean EFL students may not easily understand the semantic properties of English verbs. Therefore, the author included the semantic properties in the complement structures. The properties of verbs can be thus recognized from their complement structures. The learner can understand the differences of meaning in sentences relatively easily if they clearly understand the semantic properties of the complements. Also, practical suggestions were given for Korean English teachers to use the method in their teaching of English.
