Purpose ; The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinicopathological characteristics of uterine leiomyosarcoma (LMS) and possible prognostic factors. Materials and Methods ; This study included 31 patients with histologically proven LMS at Samsung Medical Center and Ajou University Hospital between 1994 and 2007. The medical records and available histological slides were reviewed retrospectively. Results ; The median age was 46 years (range, 32∼63). The most common symptom was vaginal bleeding (11 patients, 35.5%). There were 23 patients with stage I, one patient with stage III, seven patients with stage IV disease. The median follow up time was 29 months (range, 1∼94). The most common recurrence site was lung (5 case), followed by pelvis and upper abdomen (2 case). Nine patients died of disease with a 5-year overall survival rate of 63%. Early tumor stage and mitotic count were the prognostic factor in univariate analysis (p<0.0001 and p=0.0031, respectively), but early tumor stage only was associated with prognosis in multivariate analysis (p=0.010 vs p=0.143). Adjuvant treatment for early stage disease did not decrease the recurrence rate (p=0.1075), but high mitotic count (15>10HPF) had a trend for disease recurrence in early stage LMS (p=0.0859). Conclusion ; Mitotic count less than 15/HPF in early stage may be related with longer progression-free interval, but we could not reach the conclusion that adjuvant therapy in early stage LMS be effective.

Detailed information about the structural nature of three-coordinate borons in β-BaB2O4 is obtained through 11B MAS NMR and 11B single-crystal NMR. The three-coordinate BO3 of the two borons B(1) and B(2) in β-BaB2O4 were distinguished. The spin-lattice relaxation time in the laboratory frame T1 for B(1) and B(2) slowly decreases with increasing temperature, whereas the spin-lattice relaxation time in the rotating frame T1ρ for B(1) and B(2), which differs from T1, is nearly constant. The B(1) and B(2) of the two types were distinguished by 11B MAS NMR and 11B single-crystal NMR.

Multilayer formation of thin films is indispensable for solution-based flexible devices because the structure of electronic devices such as transistors, diodes, capacitors and resistors includes vertically thin films for operation at low voltage with a fast response. However, solution-based material can be affected by exposure to organic solvents, meaning that multilayer formation is very sensitive to the solvent used during the formation of an additional film. In this study, a multilayer formation method with ferroelectric polymer is suggested. The principle of this method is the control of the solubility of the polymer solution through the mixing of two types of solvents with different dipole moment values. After the multilayer forms, the polymer film is characterized by its polarization – voltage measurement. By fitting with a hyperbolic tangent function, the main parameters were extracted. In conclusion, the solubility modification in solvent will be very useful technology for the formation of solution-based multilayer in flexible ferroelectric nonvolatile memory applications.
Americanized Modernization: Educational Television of American Samoa and Guam in the 1960s
김우영 서울대학교 미국학연구소 2022 미국학 Vol.45 No.2
This study mainly examined the history of educational television in U.S. overseas territories to explore how educational television in American territories became an instrument for changes to the entire educational system. The establishment of educational television in U.S. overseas territories is critical since these provided some problems of the globalization of educational television in the Cold War era. Moreover, educational television has played a role to expand Americanization through the broadcasting of English programs to develop English proficiency for Samoan and Guamanian children. In addition, these projects helped U.S. overseas territories change their educational system through the launch of a governmental education center, educational broadcasting station, and standardized curriculum fit into the television program for teaching. These were the first examples of American educational aid projects that focused on the modernization of education in other territories that faced challenges in changing their traditional education.
