진화생물학의 철학을 기반으로 한 생물학의 본성 규명 및 생물교육에 대한 함의

본 연구는 진화생물학의 철학을 기반으로 하는 생물학의 본성에 대한 이해가 생물교육에 주는 의미를 찾아보기 위해 수행하였다. 본 연구를 수행하기 위해 가장 먼저 진화론을 기반으로 한 생물학의 본성(Nature of biology, NOB)을 정의 하였는데, 이를 위하여 과학철학 관련 서적 중 진화론에 초점을 둔 생물학의 철학에 관한 내용을 포함하고 있는 책들과 생물교육연구논문 중 진화관련 연구 결과들을 참고하였다. 문헌연구 결과를 바탕으로 4영역에서 6개의 진술문으로 NOB를 정의하였고, 각 진술문들을 상세하게 설명하는 20개의 세부진술문을 만들었다. 그 20개의 세부진술문들을 기본으로 하여 교사들의 NOB를 측정하기 위한 검사 도구를 만들었다. 검사 도구의 타당성과 신뢰성을 입증하기 위해 국내의 과학철학자, 철학자, 과학교육전문가 등이 타당성 검토와 신뢰도 검토를 수행하였다. 31명의 교사에게 검사 도구를 투입한 결과, 전반적으로 생물교사들의 진화론에 기반 한 NOB에 대한 이해는 긍정적이지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과는 진화론을 기반으로 한 NOB를 향상시키기 위한 교사교육프로그램이 필요하고, 생물교사교육 및 생물교육과정에 진화생물학의 철학이 포함될 필요가 있음을 알려준다. The purpose of this study is to develop an instrument we can measure the understandings of the Nature Of Biology(NOB) based on philosophy of evolutionary biology, to analyze biology teachers" understandings about it and to make implication for biology education. First of all, NOB based on evolutionary theory should be defined for doing this. We had referred to books including philosophical contents regarding biology in philosophy of science focused on evolution theory and supplemented to the findings on evolution researched by biology educators. Six statements of four categories about NOB from the literatures were confirmed and twenty sentences to explain the six statements were for making the instrument for measuring NOB. These 20 sentences were basic statements to consist the instrument to identify biology teachers’ understanding about the nature of biology. We examined validity of the instrument four times and the reliability three times for the biology teachers. We administered the final version of the instrument to 31 biology teachers to find out the teachers’ understanding level about NOB based on the evolutionary theory. Their levels of NOB were ’Uncertain’. The results explain that biology teacher education program and educational materials will be needed for enhancing the understanding of NOB based on the evolution theory.
