After the establishment of the Republic of Korea and before the Korean War in 1950, Kim Ki-rim attempted to formulate new standards on the diction of the Korean language in his Munjangron-singang (文章論新講) or “New Lecture on Writing.” He criticized the traditional form, saying that the old patterns of rhetoric and composition were obsolete. This paper examines not only how Kim developed a modern concept of academic writing and composition, but also discusses his assertions on the new ways of teaching composition. Based on the linguistic theory which distinguishes fact from opinion, Kim Ki-rim included in his new concept various forms and genres of writings which had not been considered earlier by traditional composition theories. These include scientific thesis, metaphysics, literature, and others. Kim’s writings became examples and practical evidence of the new academic writing in the Korean language. Although Kim Ki-rim adopted I. A. Richards’s philology and new rhetoric study, he advanced a systematic theory on academic writing and teaching composition which emphasized the importance of communication and practice in terms of context and interpretation.

이 논문에서는 상해임시정부 시절 춘원 이광수가 『신한청년』과 상해판 『독립신문』에 발표한 시가를 대상으로 하여, 3․1운동과 간도 참변이라는 역사적 사건을 형상화하고 민족적 수난을 애도한 양상을 살펴보았다. 상해라는 특수한 공간은 일제의 검열로부터 자유롭고 민족과 독립에 대한 절대적인 상상이 가능하였기에, 조선의 밖에서 조선의 참상을 기억할 수 있다. 『신한청년』과 상해판 『독립신문』에 수록된 이광수의 시가들은 3․1운동과 간도참변의 참상을 알리고 수난을 애도하는 방식에 있어 다양한 시적 양식을 사용하면서 민족적 주체의 표상을 내세우고 독립 운동과 민족적 단결을 역설하는 발화를 수행하였다. 상해망명시절 그의 다른 시가들에서는 망명 생활의 고달픔과 내적인 고뇌를 엿볼 수 있기도 하다.

본고에서는 정지용의 시를 대상으로, 유학과 산행을 중심으로 한 여행체험의 표상에 담긴 감각과 의미에 대해 밝혀보고자 한다. 1920년대 중후반 유학지에서의 모습을 ‘거리(街)’로 표상하고 있는 시에서 정지용은 타인의 응시 아래 놓인 시적 주체가 느끼는 이방인으로서의 비애감을 보여주었다. 이러한 시들에 나타나는 이국취향에는 시적 주체가 타지인으로 보이고 있다는 이화감이 내재되어 있으며, 그에 대한 반발로 미미하지만 위반 욕구를 드러내는 것을 볼 수 있다. 보는 것과 보이는 것 사이에서 갈등하는 시적 주체가 체성감각의 회복을 통해 자신의 존재를 확인하고자 하는 면모도 볼 수 있다. 귀국 후 피식민지인 고국의 도시에서는 그러한 이방인적인 경쾌함과 가벼움이 사라지고 시적 주체는 생활의 피로와 무기력감에 젖어 있다. 이러한 시적주체의 변화를 확인할 수 있는 표상이 ‘유리’라고 할 수 있다. 유리는 일본 유학시절과 관련된 바다 시편에서는 시적 주체의 낯설음을 방어해주고 이방인으로서의 소외와 격리를 즐기며 상상적인 감각을 누릴 수 있게 해 주었던 것과 대조적으로 근대도시에서 유리창은 시적 주체에게 감각의 폐쇄적 상태를 초래하는 역할을 한다. 1930년대 후반 정지용의 여행시들은 이러한 감각의 폐쇄적 상태를 벗어나 잃어버린 신체감각을 되찾는 계기가 되었으며 그러한 시편들에서 시적 주체는 공통감각을 회복하고자 한다. 정지용의 초기시에서 여행의 체험을 제공하는 근대적인 교통수단인 철도와 선박이 다른 감각을 차단하기에 그러한 감각에서 보는 것과 보이는 것과의 상호성이 존재하지 않는다면, 후기의 산행시들은 단순한 감각적 ‘닿음’을 넘어 자아와 타자의 공통감각을 보여주고 있다는 점을 발견할 수 있다. 이러한 점에서 후기 정지용의 시에 나타나는 여행은 근대적 일상세계에 대한 대안적인 감각과 의미를 보여주고 있는 것이다. This paper aims to explicate the sense and meaning of ‘travels’ in Jiyong Jeong’s poetry by looking up how the experience of travel was represented and how mental attitude was expressed. His poetry of the middle and late 1920s represents the image of a foreign student by showing a sense of sorrow as a foreigner as well as an attitude of defiance. Especially the latter part also exposes the desire of venting his inner freedom. After returning to Kyungsung(Seoul), the nimble and light attitude as a foreigner disappeared making way for confined self whose image was expressed in the famous ‘glass window’. In his poetry of ‘sea’ written as a foreigner in Japan, ‘glass’ was a symbolic and psychological buffer protecting himself from sinking into a sense of alienation. This contrast of the meaning of ‘Glass’ in his poetry shows a radical change of his view of world. After 1930s, His poetry of nature can be explained as resurrection of lost sense of flesh. His early works of travel are results of the experience of modern transportation which usually prevents mutual communication between the observer and the observed. But his latter works show a beauty with ‘sensus communis’ of self and others beyond a sensuous ‘touch’ of early works. His poetry of travel shows an alternative sense and representation of modern daily life.

Minjung-poetry in 1970's express sympathy of the people and describe the images of the people. It includes, the broken family without father for violence of korean modern history, the sister who works as maid or factory worker for lives of other family members, woman who have to sell her sex in urban bar or USA army camptown. The poetic subject show the compassion for the sister who changed to 'singmo(a domestic maid)', 'yeougong(a factory girl)', 'maechunbu(a prostitute)'. The female workers were represented by Chung hi-sung and the children of mixed blood in USA army camptown were represented by Kim myeung-in. That figures play an important role of the mirror which had the gender meaning and gave a reflection to intellectual male writers. 1970년대 민중시에서 하위주체로서의 여성상의 재현은 가족을 벗어나 산업 사회의 노동력으로 편입하는 누이의 모습에서 출발한다 . 한국 현대사를 통해 겪은 식민지배와 전란 , 경제적 궁핍은 가족의 중심에 부재하거나 훼손된 아버지로 표상되고, 이에 비롯된 가족의 해체는 누이가 가족 바깥으로 나아가는 데에서 정점에 이른다 . 가족 간의 애정과 순결을 상징하던 ‘누이’가 ‘식모, 여공, 매춘여성’으로서 자본주의적 현실에 노출되는 것이다 . 이러한 양상이 , 이 누이를 재현하면서 시적 주체는 사회적 소외감과 가부장제적 연민을 드러낸다 . 민중시에서 지배 질서를 향해 나타내는 정치적 저항은 여성 젠더를 전략적으로 저항의 목소리에 활용한다 . 순결성과 숭고를 현실의 부정성에 대한 반대항으로 내세우는 것이다 . 1970년대 시에서 여성적 하위주체가 재현되는 양상 가운데에서 주목해 볼 것은 여404 여성문학연구 19성 노동자를 재현하고 있는 시와 미군 기지촌의 문제를 다룬 시이다 . 이러한 시들에서, 여성 노동자의 실제 창작이 등장하는 1980년대와 달리 남성 지식인 작가에 의해 재현된 하위주체는 타자화라는 한계를 지닐 수밖에 없었다 . 그것은 남성 지식인 작가들에게 현실에 대한 각성과 반성을 위한 젠더화된 거울이었다고 할 수 있을 것이다 .
