파핏(Derek Parfit)은 공리주의의 몰개인성에 대한 철학적ㆍ직관적 거부감은 우리가 어떤 존재인가에 대한 잘못된 형이상학적 신념에서 비롯되었다고 주장한다. 그의 심리적 환원주의는 우리의 독립적 실체성을 부정하고 의식의 통일성을 심리적 연결성의 정도의 문제로 정의함으로써 견고한 인격동일성(personal identity)을 요구하는 의무론적 도덕 원칙들의 중요성을 축소하려 시도한다. 『이유와 인격』에서 파핏이 전개한 친공리주의적 논변은 인격의 본질에 대한 이론적 분석과 규범 윤리학의 관계에 대한 비상한 관심을 조성하였으나 정작 공리주의자들로부터 전폭적인 환영을 받지는 못했다. 사실적인 측면에서 공리주의자들은 파핏의 심리적 환원주의가 그려내는 인격관을 수용하지 않으며 그럴 이유도 없다. 그들은 결코 롤즈(John Rawls)나 하트(H.L.A. Hart)가 이해하는 것처럼 인격을 단순히 경험들의 용기(container) 정도로만 생각 하지 않는다. 그런데 파핏은 공리주의의 인격관에 대한 기존의 일방적이고 편협한 해석에 편승하고 있다. 전략적인 측면에서 그의 논변은 공리주의와 비공리주의의 의견충돌을 해소하는 방향으로 나아가지 못하고, 오히려 양자가 비생산적인 평행선을 걸어가도록 할뿐이다. 이러한 지적들을 비롯하여, 이 논문은 파핏의 논변이 내포한 심각한 취약점들을 진단한다.

프리츠커상 수상자의 작품에 나타난 바이오필릭 디자인 패턴에 관한 연구

As human beings inherently value nature, attempts are continuously being made to introduce nature into buildings. In previous studies, Biophilic design patterns were presented to provide the basis for Biophilic architectural planning. However, existing building cases are applying these patterns through similar and limited methods. Therefore, studies that can introduce various and creative planning methods for designing biophilic buildings are needed. This study aims to present planning methods for designing Biophilic buildings by analyzing works of architects, who were laureates of the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Cases were analyzed to examine planning methods of applying Biophilic designs to architecture. The results of this study are expected to be used as reference materials for architects to design Biophilic buildings which provide environments that connect with nature.

루이스 캐럴의 『이상한 나라의 앨리스』에 나타난 샤머니즘 고찰

본 연구의 목적은 루이스 캐럴(Lewis Caroll)의 『이상한 나라의 앨리스』에 나타난 샤머니즘(shamanism)의 상징 이미지를 통해서 이 작품을 분석하는 것이다. 오랜 세월 이루어진 동서 문명 교류는 서양인들의 시각에서 동아시아 유목 민족들의 샤머니즘 전통이 판타지적인 요소로 인식되었다. 『이상한 나라의 앨리스』에 등장하고 있는 시계, 토끼, 앨리스(처녀자리), 도마뱀, 쌍둥이, 거북이, 그리고 고양이는 실재하는 천문의 별자리를 인격화시킨 것이다. 이러한 샤머니즘 연관성은 조앤 캐서린 롤링(Joanne Kathleen Rowling)의 『해리 포터』에서도 확인할 수 있다. 롤링은 샤머니즘을 토대로 한 켈트 신화의 세계관을 그대로 작품에 제시하고 있다. 캐럴은 샤머니즘의 상징들을 통해서 우주의 시간 질서 개념과 새로운 시대의 도래를 암시하고 있다. 앨리스는 기존의 시간 개념인 ‘처녀자리’를 상징하고 있고, 여왕은 앞으로 다가 올 새로운 시대의 상징인 ‘사자의 심장’을 상징하고 있다. 결론적으로 캐럴은 기존의 시간 질서와 새로운 시간 질서 사이의 갈등 양상을 상징적으로 묘사하고 있다. The purpose of this study is to analyze this work through the symbolic image of shamanism in Lewis Caroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The exchange of civilizations between East and West, which took place for a long time, was recognized by Westerners as a fantasy element of the shamanistic traditions of East Asian nomads. Watch, rabbit, Alice(Virgins), lizard, twins, turtle, and cat in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland personalize real astronomical constellations. This shamanic connection can also be seen in Joanne Kathleen Rowling’s Harry Potter. Rowling presents the worldview of Celtic mythology based on shamanism in her work. Through the symbols of shamanism, Caroll implies the concept of the time order of the universe and the advent of a new era. Alice symbolizes the existing concept of time, “Virgin,” and Queen of Hearts symbolizes the “heart of the lion,” a symbol of a new era to come. In conclusion, Caroll symbolically depicts the conflict between the existing temporal order and the coming temporal order.

켈러의 『일본군위안부』에 나타난 여성 억압 및 모녀관계 회복

The purpose of this study is to explore the problems of healing and restoration of sick past and sad history that Korean women experienced in modern history through Comfort Woman by Nora Okja Keller. This paper examines the deep understanding of the history in order to discuss the problems of women's repressed self and external voices. The way for Japanese soldiers to control comfort women was to control language. Induk suffers death through strong resistance by destroying the use of prohibited language in this work. Japanese soldiers ridicule Soon Hyo because she accepts Akiko, a Japanese name for Induk, and clothes without hesitation. However, Soon Hyo is symbolically embracing 'resistance' by wearing Akiko's name and clothes. Akiko (Soon Hyo)’s daughter, Beccah, who does not accept the mother's words and takes a gesture of rejection, is the part where two women and girls are going to be disconnected rather than communicating with each other. However, Beccah experiences a new cognitive transition through mother’s death. Ultimately, restoring the bond between mother and daughter means that the disconnected past, present, and future can be renewed. In conclusion, Keller argues for the restoration of maternal and maternal relationships as an essential element to identify all women as a fundamental force and identity as a woman. In other words, Keller shows that what is important prior to sympathy and healing is mutual understanding and empathy among women. And the understanding among these women can be extended to mutual understanding.
