일본 최고의 작가 중 한 명이라 인정받는 다카하시 루미코의 대표작 <이누야샤>에는 요괴, 무녀, 신사 등 일본 전통문화 및 종교적 소재가 등장하며, 일본뿐만 아니라 세계적으로 가장 대중적인 일본 만화, 애니메이션으로 평가받고 있다. 한편, <이누야사>의 영향력만큼이나 학계에서도 작품에 관한 본격적인 연구가 필요했지만, 전반적인 연구가 매우 미미한 상황이다. 따라서 본 연구는 선행연구를 통해 일본 콘텐츠에 등장하는 민간신앙의 일반적인 관념을 살펴본 후 <이누야샤>에 민간신앙이 어떻게 접목되고 구현되는지, 또한 다카하시의 작품세계에 반영되는지를 연구한다. 연구 결과, 사학을 전공한 다카하시의 작품세계에는 일본인의 자연환경에 의해 형성된 애니미즘을 바탕으로 한 자연관에 의해 독특한 방식을 보였다. <이누야샤>의 전개 양상과 특징을 통해 모든 물체 안에 영혼이 존재한다고 믿는 일본인의 신도적 신관과 설화와 신화, 전설, 그리고 민담과 같은 일본 전통 혹은 동양 전통 소재와 관련된 것들이 그녀에게 많은 영향을 주었음을 알 수 있었다. 일본의 종교와 민간신앙은 다카하시의 작품세계를 형성하는 기본적인 요소이며, 세일러복, 전국시대 등의 현대적 장치들과 로맨스, 코미디, 호러, 타임리프 등의 대중 오락적 소재를 통해 다카하시만의 독특한 세계관, ‘루믹월드’를 형성할 수 있던 것으로 보인다. 또한 <이누야샤>의 배경에 전국시대가 등장한 이유는 중국 <삼국지>와 같이 군웅할거 이야기가 풍부하기 때문이다. 만화 <배가본드>, 소설 <미야모토 무사시>, 애니메이션 <모노노케 히메> 등이 전국시대를 배경으로 한 작품이며 이야기가 풍부한 전국시대는 일본 콘텐츠 시장에서 매우 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. <이누야샤>를 통해 살펴본 민간신앙의 의미와 분석은 일본문화 콘텐츠에 나타나는 특징들을 해석하는데 하나의 중요한 표본으로서 작용할 수 있을 것이며, 본 연구가 앞으로 더욱 이론의 틀에서 연구될 것으로 기대한다. Rumiko Takahashi's representative work, “Inuyasha,” which is recognized as one of Japan's best writers, features traditional Japanese culture and religious materials such as goblin, lady, Buddhist, congregation, shinmok, and shrine, and is considered the most popular Japanese comics and animation in the world. Meanwhile, full-fledged research on the work was needed in academia as much as the influence of Inuyasa, but overall research is very insignificant. Therefore, this study examines the general notion of folk belief in Japanese content through prior research and studies how folk belief is incorporated and implemented in Inuyasha, and also how it is reflected in Takahashi's work world. As a result of the study, Takahashi's work world, which majored in history, showed a unique way based on the animism formed by the natural environment of the Japanese. Through the development and characteristics of Inuyasha, we can see that the divine divinity of the Japanese people who believe that souls exist in all objects, tales, myths, legends, and traditional Japanese or Eastern subjects, such as folk tales, have influenced her a lot. Japan's religion and folk belief are fundamental elements of Takahashi's work world, and modern devices such as Sailor's suits and the National Era, as well as popular entertainment materials such as romance, comedy, horror and time leap, have helped form Takahashi's unique worldview, “Rumik World.” Also, the reason why the national era appeared in the background of “Inuyasha” is that there are many stories to be fought with, such as “The Three Kingdoms” in China. Comics such as “Vagabond,” novel “Miyamoto Musashi,” and animation “Mononoke Hime” are set in the national era, and the story-rich national era plays a very important role in Japanese content market. The meaning and analysis of folk beliefs viewed through Inuyasha can serve as an important example of interpreting the features of Japanese cultural content, and we expect this study to be further studied in the framework of theory.
