Purpose : The purpose of this study was to determine radiologic variables affecting extraction of impacted mandibular third molar. Materials and Methods : This study was investigated on 44 consecutive extractions of unilateral impacted mandibular third molars (Male;34, Female;10, Mean age;24.98, Age range;19-35). Fourteen radiologic variables, which were actual value except only one, were evaluated to establish their relation to the operation time. The Pearson correlation coefficient and Stepwise procedures for regression analysis were carried out. Results : Eight variables (depth, angulation, ramus width, relationship to the second molar, distal ramus depth, mesial ramus depth, mesial periodontal ligament width and follicle) showed a statistically significant relation to the operation time(Pearson correlation coefficient, p<0.05) . Two variables, depth and mesial periodontal ligament width, showed the most powerful and just relation to the operation time(r2 = 0.349, p<0.05). Conclusion : This study shows that our results can help general practioner to estimate the operation time of extraction of impacted mandibular third molars by measuring two radiologic variables ; depth and mesial periondontal ligament width.
Effect of osmotic pressure on paclitaxel production in suspension cell cultures of Taxus chinensis

The effect of osmotic pressure on paclitaxel production was investigated in the suspension cell cultures of Taxus chinensis. Paclitaxel production was definitely influenced by the initial sucrose concentration and the highest production yield was achieved at the concentration of 60 g·l^-1 sucrose(300 mOsm·kg^-1). HIgh osmotic pressure conditions generated by non-metabolic sugar (mannitol and sorbitol) also enhanced paclitaxel production by about two-fold. Kinetic studies revealed that high intial osmotic pressure enhanced paclitaxel production and that high concentration of sucrose was effective for sustaining secondary metabolism after induction of paclitaxel biosynthesis. Stoichiometric analysis with different combinations of sucrose and mannitol confirmed that osmotic pressure was the more important factor for enhancing paclitaxel metabolism. The addition of non-sugar osmotic agent, PEG also enhanced paclitaxle production. In this paper, we showed that high osmotic pressure led to increases in paclitaxel production and proposed that regulation of osmotic pressure may be useful in controlling paclitaxel production.

Ni<SUB>0.4</SUB>Zn<SUB>0.4</SUB>Cu<SUB>0.2</SUB>Fe₂O₄ ferrite was fabricated by solid stat reaction method and sol-gel method. Because of the drawbacks of each method, we combined these two methods together. We proposed and experimentally verified that nanocrystalline ferrite additive was effective on improving the densification behavior and magnetic properties of NiZnCu ferrites for multilayer chip inductors. The initial permeability of the toroidal core Sample with 20 wt% nanocrystalline ferrite increased from 78.1 to 178.2 as annealing temperature is increased from 880 ℃ to 920 ℃. The density, shrinkage and saturation magnetization were increased with increasing annealing temperature, which was attributed to the decrease of additive grain size and increase of sintering density.

In this paper, we studied the electromagnetic transmission characteristics of eco-friendly foamed concrete which is lightweight, heat and sound insulation, which can reduce the economical cost and environmental pollution. The foamed concretes were fabricated with ladle furnace slag, gypsum and blast furnace slag which are industrial by-products. Electrical properties like dielectric constant and loss tangent were measured to simulate the electromagnetic transmission characteristics of the fabricated foamed concrete walls. The free-space measurement method was used to measure and analyze the electromagnetic transmission characteristics of 1~8GHz band depending on the content of foams and blast furnace slag. From the measurement results, it was confirmed that the electromagnetic wave was transmitted at -10dB(90%) at 4GHz or less. The results of this study can be applied to the research for improving the spectral efficiency through the efficient wireless network design and reducing the human body effect by electromagnetic waves in the indoor space where foamed concrete is applied.
