        Background and Objectives : When p53 cancer suppressor gene, occurs gene deletion or point mutation, malignancy develops by loss of p53 function with abnormal p53 protein. The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is the causative agent of certain type of lymphoma and undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma. However, the role of EBV as a causative factor in other head &eck tumors is not fully elucidated except nasopharyngeal carcinoma. This study, the author examined that p53 expression and detection rate of EBV correlate to development of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma(SCC) and play the possible role of prognostic indicators. Materials and Methods : Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue specimen from 32 cases of larynx and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas were studied by immunohistochemical staining for p53 and EBV. The results of analysis were compared with clinicopathological parameters. Results : p53 expression was 56.3% (18 cases) and the detection rate of EBV was 43.6% (14 cases) of 32 cases in laryngeal and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas. p53 expression was correlate with histologic grade (p<05) only. Detection of EBV was not correlate with clinicopathological parmeters. Conclusion : These results suggest p53 expression and the detection of EBV may be related with development of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. And, the expression of p53 protein can be used as a prognosticator in laryngeal and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma under certain limitation.

      • 만성중이염의 골도청력변화

        We have usually experienced bone conduction impairment in chronic otitis media, but it is unclear that raised bone conduction threshold is due to the reflection of cochlear dam- age and / or Carhart effect ( an artificial elevation of bone conduction threshold due to conductive defect ) or both. The purpose of this study is to verify the influence of the artificial elevation of the bone conduction threshold in chronic otitis media and to estimate Carhart effect. A total of 336 cases of tympanoplasty with unilateral chronic otitis media without any other causes of sensorineural hearing loss was studied. The average threshold levels of the bone conduction in diseased ears ranged from 18.5dB at 4kHz to 12.1dB at 250Hz The longer duration of the disease, the larger perforation size, the more severe damage of the middle ear structure and the presence of the cholesteatoma made bone conduction threshold increased. The postoperative thresholds of bone conduction were Improved in 36 cases (40.4%) of the 89 cases that underwent operation with type I tympanoplasty technique without electrie drilling. The degree of the maximal improvement was 14.3dB at 2000Hz and the minimum was 8.8dB at 250Hz. but these result did differ from a statistically significant degree. The result suggest that the bone conduction threshold in chronic otitis media is elevated artificially by conductive defect and improved by successful reconstructive surgery.

      • 비냉각 적외선 감지기용 비나듐 산화막의 전기전도기구

        Thin films of vanadium oxide(VO_(x)) have been deposited by r.f. magnetron sputtering from V_(2)O_(5) target in gas mixture of argon and oxygen. The oxygen/(oxygen+argon) partial pressure ratio is changed from 0% to 8%. Crystal structure, chemical composition and electrical properties of films sputter-deposited under different oxygen gas pressures have been characterized through XRD, AES, RBS and electrical conductivity measurements. All the films prepared below 8% O_(2) are amorphous, and those prepared without oxygen are gray indicating the presence of V_(2)O_(4) phase in the films. In order to measure the current-voltage characteristics and temperature dependence of conductance, devices of A1/VO_(x)/A1 sandwich structure have been fabricated. I-V characteristics are distinguished between linear and nonlinear region. In the low field region the conduction is due to Schottky emission, while at high field it changes to Fowler-Nordheim tunneling type conduction. The conductivity measurements have shown an Arrhenius dependence of the conductivity on the temperature.

        접촉각 측정으로 본 표면 장력 관련 교육 내용 및 고등학교 학생틀의 이해 분석

        이 연구에서는 극성 액체인 물, 에탄올 및 비극성 액체인 사염화탄소를 극성 표변인 유리와 비극성고체인 PVC와 테플론판 위에 떨어뜨린 후 접촉각을 측정하고, 액체 증기, 고체 증기, 및 고체-액체의 경계간의 자유에너지 (□_(LV), □_(SV), □_(SL))와 표면장력을 계산하였다. 접촉각의 크기는 액체의 종류 또는 표면장력 뿐 아니라, 고제 판의 특성에 따라서도 달라진다는 것을 확인하였다. 또한, 접촉각의 크기는 액체의 표면 장력의 크기와 반드시 일치하지는 않았다. 7차 교육과정의 ‘화학 I’ 교과서 8종과 여러 평가 문항들을 분석한 결과, 접촉각과 표면 장력의 크기를 단순히 분자 간 인력에 따라 비례하는 것으로 표현하는 경우가 있었고, 교육과정에서 요구하는 수준을 념거나 현실적으로 관찰되지 않는 상황을 제시하는 경우도 있었다. 고등학교 학생들은 접촉각 표면장력 그리고 분자간 인력에 관련된 이해가 부족한 것으로 나타났다. Interfacial free energies(□_(LV), □_(SV), and □_(SL)) were calculated from the measured contact angles between various solid surfaces and liquids. Polar liquid, water and ethanol, as well as non-polar liquid such as carbon tetrachloride were examined on the polar surface such as glass as well as non-polar surface PVC and Teflon. The contact angle showed dependence on characteristics of both liquids and solid surfaces. More importantly, the order of contact angle did not agree with that of surface tension From the analysis of 8 types of 'Chemistry l' textbooks and several assesment items, the errors are found that the contact angle and surface tension are proportional to intermolecular interaction. In some cases, the required knowledge is above current educational level or some unrealistic situation is used as an example. The high school students are appeared to be incomprehensible to complex relationships between contact angle, surface tension, and intermolecular interactions.

      • 食用 고사리의 Thiaminase에 관한 硏究

        In the course of studies on a thiaminase from wild bracken, Korean's common foodstuff, and its effects on the human nutrition, some properties of the enzyme were investigated. The obtained results were as follows; 1. From 10 g of the powdered bracken, thiaminase was extracted about 2,924 units of specific activity 10.99. 2. The bracken thiaminase exhibited the sharp optimum pH at a range of 7.5 to 8.0 for its activity. And the maximum reaction rate was achieved at the temperature of 60℃. 3. The Km value for the enzyme was calculated to be 1.54 x 10-³mole with respect to thiamine hydrochloride and 3.57 x 10-³mole with respect to pyridine. 4. Of the metal ions tested, only manganese ion was recognized to have a slight effect in activating the enzyme while heavy metal ions especially cupric salt showed a remarkable inhibitory effect. 5. The enzyme activity was strongly inhibited by p-chloromercuric benzoate, a typical "SH-reagent". But the whole activity was recovered by thereafter incubating with cysteine solution. Therefore the bracken thiaminase was considered to be an enzyme which possesses essential SH group in order to retain its normal active conformation. 6. On storage at low temperature below 5℃, the enzyme was greatly inactivated but it showed considerable stability at the temperature around 20℃. 7. The enzyme was best protected from thermal denaturation at pH 7.0 with phosphate buffer, but it lost almost all the activity by 10 minute's heating at 80℃.

      • ZnS_(1-x)Te_x 단결정 박막의 격자진동

        Hot-wall epitaxy에 의하여 GaAs (100) 기판 위에 성장된 ZnS_1-xTe_x(0<x<1) 단결정 박막의 특성이 Raman 산란을 이용하여 조사되었다. Raman 산란으로부터 측정된 장파장의 ZnTe-like의 longitudinal 광학 포논의 주파수는 성분비 x와 함께 선형으로 변하였다. ZnS_1-xTe_x 단결정 박막의 x의 함수로서 zone-center 광학 포논의 주파수는 two-mode이었고, 이 결과는 MERI 모델의 이론치와 잘 일치하였다. ZnS_1-xTe_x(0<x<1) alloys grown on (100) GaAs substrates by hot-wall epitaxy are investigated using Raman scattering. The frequencies of long wavelength ZnTe-like and ZnTe-like longitudinal optical phonons determined from Raman scattering show linear variation with the composition x. The frequency of the zone-center optical phonons as a function of x of the ZnS_1-xTe_x mixed crystal shows a typical two-mode behavior. which is in good agreement with the theoretical results from a modified random-element isodisplacement model.

        서울 지역 대학생의 식습관 및 식생활태도에 관한 조사

        This study was to investigate the food habits and the dietary behaviors of university students. Questionnaires were completed by 492 students in five different departments. The data were analyzed by SAS program. The results are summarized as follows: Fifty(10.2%) of respondents were vegetarians, 81(16.4%) were heavy meat eaters and all the others were light meat eaters. All students had their biggest meal at supper. Three hundred and ninety-three(79,9%) of the respondents usually had rice for breakfast. Three hundred -sixteen(64.2%} ate 3 meals a day, 155(31.5%) ate 2 meals and all the others ate 1 meal or more than 3 meals. The length of mealtime was 30 minutes in 268(54.5%), 10 minutes in 209(42.5%) and more than 1 hour in all the others. Respondents considered taste the most important meal factor with nutrition, hygiene, and amount ranked accordingly. A majority(63.0%) of respondents ate occasionally ate between meals, while 28.1% snacked frequently, and 8.9% ate no snacks. Although nutrition dept. students had studied nutrition subject, some results of nutrition dept. students were desirable and others were undesirable in dietary behaviors. Therefore they should have a nutritional education program to improve their food habits and the dietary behaviors for students' health. And nutritional education program should be organized practically and systematically.

      • 비수용매에서 전이금속 Ni(II) 착물의 전기화학적 연구

        Tridentate schiff base ligand salicylidene-2-iminophenol(SIPH₂) was prepared by the reaction of salicylaldehyde with 2-aminophenol, a its Ni(II) complex was synthesized. The structure and properties of the ligand and its complex were studied by elemental analysis, ¹H-NMR, IR, UV-visible spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The mole ratio of Schiff base to the metal of complex was found to be 1:1. Ni(II) complex was contemplated to have hexa-coordinated octahedral configuration containing three water molecules. The redox process of ligand and complex in DMSO solution containing 0.1 M TBAP as supporting electrolyte was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry with glassy carbon electrode. The redox process of the tridentate Schiff base ligand was totally irreversible. The redox process of Ni(II) complex was quasi-reversible and diffusion-controlled as one electron by one step process Ni(II)/Ni(I). Therefore we conclued that the redox process of complex are as follows : ??
