        A set of experiments of Counter - Current Flow Limit ( CCFL or Flooding ) was executed to improve the drawbacks of Wallis' Correlation which neglects channel length, injection method of liquid and gas phase. In these experiments, using water and air, the followings are found ; ⅰ) The effect of channel length is quite significant, ⅱ) By increasing gas flow rate ( gas velocity ) the flooding point moves upward. This phenomenum is believed to be the effect of flow developing along the channel. ⅲ) The effect of water inlet device is not so significant as that of channel length. But the inlet boundary conditions can also effect the flow developing and flooding afterward, ⅳ) When flooding front reaches the inlet of water injection device, a new reduced flow conditions are set up and resulted in another flooding. This event can be explained by the flooding at the water inlet, therefore, the water can not flow down easily.

      • 비선형 시스템의 진화형 신경회로망 제어기의 구현

        The stabilization control of Inverted Pendulum(IP) system is difficult because of its nonlinearity and structural unstability. Futhermore, a series of conventional techniques such as the pole placement and the optimal control based on the local linearizations have narrow stabilizable regions. At the same time, the fine tunings of their gain parameters are also troublesome. Thus, in this paper, an Evolving Neural Network Controller(ENNC) which its structure and its connection weights are optimized simultaneously by Real Variable Elitist Genetic Algorithm(RVEGA) was presented for stabilization of an IP system with nonlinearity. This proposed ENNC was described by a simple genetic chromosome. And the deletion of neuron, the determinations of input or output neuron, the deleted neuron and the activation functions types are given according to the various flag types. Therefore, the connection weights, its structure and the neuron types in the given ENNC can be optimized by the proposed evolution strategy. And the proposed ENNC was implemented successfully on the ADA-2310 data acquisition board and the P-III microprocessor in order to stabilize the nonlinear system. initial values and the external disturbances applied to pendulum. Its main hardwares were made of the ADA-2310 data acquisition board and the P-III microprocessor. Through the simulation and experimental results, we showed that the finally acquired optimal PENNC was very useful in the stabilization control of nonlinear(IP) system.

        0.2% 불화나트륨 용액으로 5년간 양치한 초등학교 아동의 영구치 우식증 예방효과

        Supervised weekly fluoride mouthrinsing(FMR) program with 0.2 percent neutral sodium fluroide solution has been implemented at primary schools in Pusan, Korea since 1995 to prevent the prevalent dental caries. Children of sixth grade in 2000 who had joined the weekly FMR program at four primary school in Pusan with a 0.2 percent sodium fluoride solution for five years from first grade in 1995 to fifth grade in 1999 were selected as experimental group. Children of sixth grade in 2000 who had not joined the FMR program until sixth grade and had not drunk fluoridated pulic water at two primary schools in the Bukgu(Norhtern) District of Ulsan were selected as control group. Samples were 295 in FMR group and 312 in control group. To estimate caries preventive effect, epidemiologic dental survey was performed at the schools of FMR and control group in 2000 for 11-year-old children. The surveyed data were analyzed with SPSS statistical package. The obtained results were as follws. 1. Children who experienced caries on permanent teeth were 71.2% in FMR group and 83.3% in control group. 12.1% of DMF rate decreased in FMR group compared to control group. 2. The DMFT scores were 2.68 in FMR group and 3.29 in control group. The difference of DMFT scores was 0.61 between fluoride mouthrinsing group. The caries reduction rate from 5-year FMR program was calculated as 18.5% by the difference of DMFT scores between FMR group and control group. 3. The DMFS scores were 4.04 in FMR group and 5.05 in control group. The difference of DMFS scores was 1.01 between FMR group and control group. The caries reduction rate from 5-year FMR program was calculated as 20.0% by the difference of DMFS scores between FMR group and control group. 4. Significant Caries Index of permanent teeth was 5.46 in FMR group and 6.02 in control group. 5. We suggest that fluoride mouthrinsing program should be developed to all primary schools to prevent dental caries.

        First Report of Cucumber mosaic virus Infecting Pinewood Coneflower (Rudbeckia bicolor) in Korea

        A virus isolate causing symptoms of yellow mosaic, fern leaves, malformation and plant necrosis on Rudbeckia bicolor was prevalent around Pyeongchang area in Korea. The causal virus was identified as Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) using characteristics from biological, serological and molecular analyses and named as CMV-Rb. CMV-Rb caused mosaic on Nicotiana benthamiana, N. tabacum, Capsicum annuum, and Lycopersicon esculentum. However, typical local lesions did not develop on inoculated Pisum sativum, Cucurbita moschata, Datura stramonium and Tetragonia expansa plants. Full-length genome sequences of CMV-Rb RNAs 1, 2 and 3 were obtained using 12 primer pairs by RT-PCR analysis. The genome of CMV-Rb RNA segments 1, 2, and 3 consists of 3363nt, 3049nt, and 2214nt in length, respectively. In order to ascertain their taxonomic identity, nucleotide and the deduced amino acid sequence analyses RNAs 1, 2 and 3 of CMV-Rb isolates were conducted with previously reported sequences of CMV strains and/or isolates. CMV-Rb RNAs showed about 90 to 99% sequence identity to those of subgroup I strains suggesting that CMV-Rb is more closely related to CMV isolates belong to subgroup I. To our knowledge, this is the first report of CMV on Rudbeckia bicolor in Korea.

      • Design of a Polymer–Carbon Nanohybrid Junction by Interface Modeling for Efficient Printed Transistors

        <P>Molecularly hybridized materials composed of polymer semiconductors (PSCs) and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) may provide a new way to exploit an advantageous combination of semiconductors, which yields electrical properties that are not available in a single-component system. We demonstrate for the first time high-performance inkjet-printed hybrid thin film transistors with an electrically engineered heterostructure by using specially designed PSCs and semiconducting SWNTs (sc-SWNTs) whose system achieved a high mobility of 0.23 cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>–1</SUP> s<SUP>–1</SUP>, no <I>V</I><SUB>on</SUB> shift, and a low off-current. PSCs were designed by calculation of the density of states of the backbone structure, which was related to charge transfer. The sc-SWNTs were prepared by a single cascade of the density-induced separation method. We also revealed that the binding energy between PSCs and sc-SWNTs was strongly affected by the side-chain length of PSCs, leading to the formation of a homogeneous nanohybrid film.       • Factors on Somatic Embryogenesis and Organogenesis of Soybean (Glycine max)

        To enhance in vitro plantlet regeneration efficiency of soybean through embryogenesis, the culture conditions such as meterial part and size of immature seed, 2,4-D pH and solidifying agents for somatic embryogenesis were investigated. Somatic embryogenesis was induced from the immature embryo, immature cotyledon, and embryonic axis explants of the immature seed on MS medium supplemented with 2.0 mg/L 2,4-D. The highest rate (up tp 23%) of somatic embryogenesis was obtained from the immature cotyledon, followed by embryonic axis and immature embryo. The rate varied with the developmental stages of seed. The maximum rate (25%) of embryogenesis was obtained from 3-4 mm length of the seed after 25 days of flowering. The optimum concentration of 2,4-D for embryogenesis was 10mg/l. The optimum pH was at 5.8 and solidifying agent for medium was better with 0.4% gelrite than with agar. For rapid multiplication of shoot tip from germinating somatic embryos, they were cultured on MS medium containing 2 mg/L IBA and 1 mg/L BAP, After then somatic embryos with one and three cotyledons were transferred to the plant growth regulator free medium. The medium exhibited the higher rate (50%) of development than the multiplication medium. To select the section with shoot formation ability, the calli and shoot formation from three sections of 5-days-seedings of soybean were induced on MS medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/L BAP, 3% sucrose, and 0.3% gelrite for one month. The first leaf section exhibited the highest shoot formation rate (51%), followed the hypocotyl section and the cotyledon section. The shoot formation rates and shoot number of the four excised sections of the first leaf were aldo investigated on the same medium. A half of the first leaf explant and the third of the first leaf explant had higher shoot formation rates (76-80%) and number (3-4/ explants) than those in other two explants. Effects of cytokinins on shoot formation were determined, using the half of the first leaf explants. Zeatin (1.0mg/L) exhibited the highest in shoot formation rate (94%) and combination (1: 1, v/v) of zeatin (1.0mg/L) and IAA (1.0 mg/L) eshibited the highest in shoot formation rate (96%) and numbers (16/explant), twice more than zeatin alone (1.0 mg/L). The shoot cuttings were transferred and cultivated on the rooting media supplemented with only auxin, IBA at variois concentrations. The highest root formation (8/shoot) was achieved on the medium supplementes with 1.5 mg/L. After 4 weeks of cultivation, the plantlets with an extensive root system were transplanted in pots with a soil mixture of vermiculite and fine sand. Transferred to field, about 75% of the plantlets survived.

        Vascular Calcification in Chronic Kidney Disease: Distinct Features of Pathogenesis and Clinical Implication

        Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with a higher prevalence of vascular calcification (VC) and cardiovascular disease. VC in CKD patients showed different pathophysiological features from those of the general population. The pathogenesis of VC in CKD is a highly organized process, and prior studies have suggested that patients with CKD have their own specific contributors to the phenotypic change of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), including uremic toxins, CKD-mineral and bone disease (CKD-MBD), inflammation, and oxidative stress. For the diagnosis and monitoring of VC in CKD, several imaging modalities, including plain radiography, ultrasound, and computed tomography have been utilized. VC in CKD patients has distinct clinical features and implications. CKD patients revealed a more intense and more prevalent calcification on the intimal and medial layers, whereas intimal calcification is predominantly observed in the general population. While a higher VC score is clearly associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular events, a greater VC score in CKD patients does not fully reflect the burden of atherosclerosis, because they have more calcification at equal volumes of atheromatous plaques. The primary goal of VC treatment in CKD is the prevention of VC progression, and the main management is to control the biochemical components of CKD-MBD. Cinacalcet and non-calcium-containing phosphate binders are the mainstay of VC prevention in CKD-MBD management. VC in patients with CKD is an ongoing area of research and is expected to advance soon.
