Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the behavioral and emotional problems associated with nocturnal enuresis in Korean children. Methods : Three hundred eighteen children with nocturnal enuresis, together with their parents, completed the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), Disruptive Behavior Disorder Scale according to DSM-IV (DBDS), Children's Depression Inventory (CDI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAIC), and Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale (PHCSC). Ninety-three normal students were selected as the control group. Results : Compared to the normal control group, the mean scores with regard to the withdrawn, social problems, attention problems, delinquent behavior, aggressive behavior, externalizing problems and total problems profiles were significantly higher in the nocturnal enuresis group according to the CBCL results. The nocturnal enuresis group also scored significantly higher in the ADHD and ODD profiles of the DBDS. The nocturnal enuresis group was more depressed and anxious than the control group according to the results of the CDI and STAI. The mean score of the PHCSC was significantly lower in the nocturnal enuresis group when compared to the normal control group. Conclusion : The results of this study suggest that children with nocturnal enuresis in Korea have clinically relevant behavioral and emotional problems. The findings support the link between nocturnal enuresis and psychopathology in Korean children.
P62 and the Sequestosome, a Novel Mechanism for Protein Metabolism
Shin, Jae-Kyoon The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1998 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.21 No.6
In addition to selecting proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome, ubiqitination appears to serve other regulatory functions, including for endosomal/lysosomal targeting, protein translocation, and enzyme modification. Currently, little is known how multiubiquitin chains are recognized by these cellular mechanisms. Within the 26S proteasome, one subunit (Mcb1/S5a) has been identified that has affinity for multiubiquitin chains and may function as a ubiquitin receptor. We recently found that a non-proteasomal protein p62 also preferentially binds multiubiquitin chains and forms a novel cytoplasmic structure "sequestosome" which serves as a storage place for ubiquitinated proteins. In the present manuscript, the role and regulation of p62 in relation to the sequestosomal function will be reviewed.
Predicting Working Memory Capacity in Older Subjects Using Quantitative Electroencephalography
Jae Hyuk Shin,Kyungun Jhung,Jae Seok Heo,Suk Kyoon An,Jin Young Park 대한신경정신의학회 2018 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.15 No.8
Objective_We utilized a spectral and network analysis technique with an integrated support vector classification algorithm for the automated detection of cognitive capacity using resting state electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. Methods_An eyes-closed resting EEG was recorded in 158 older subjects, and spectral EEG parameters in seven frequency bands, as well as functional brain network parameters were, calculated. In the feature extraction stage, the statistical power of the spectral and network parameters was calculated for the low-, moderate-, and high-performance groups. Afterward, the highly-powered features were selected as input into a support vector machine classifier with two discrete outputs: low- or high-performance groups. The classifier was then trained using a training set and the performance of the classification process was evaluated using a test set. Results_The performance of the Support Vector Machine was evaluated using a 5-fold cross-validation and area under the curve values of 70.15% and 74.06% were achieved for the letter numbering task and the spatial span task. Conclusion_In this study, reliable results for classification accuracy and specificity were achieved. These findings provide an example of a novel method for parameter analysis, feature extraction, training, and testing the cognitive function of elderly subjects based on a quantitative EEG signal.
Production of yam mosaic virus (ymv)-free Dioscorea opposita plants by cryotherapy of shoot-tips.
Shin, Jong Hee,Kang, Dong Kyoon,Sohn, Jae Keun Royal Veterinary College 2013 Cryo letters Vol.34 No.2
<P>In the present study, Yam mosaic virus (YMV) could be efficiently eliminated by cryotherapy in Dioscorea opposita. Shoot apices were precultured for 16 h with 0.3 M sucrose, encapsulated in sodium alginate and dehydrated for 4 h prior to direct immersion in liquid nitrogen. Up to 90 percent of the plants regenerated from cryopreserved shoot tips were YMV-free, whereas only 40% of those regenerated using meristem culture were YMV-free. YMV-free yam plantlets could be propagated in vitro through nodal stem culture, with sequential subculturing at 6-week intervals on medium containing 0.5 mg per liter kinetin. The microtubers formed at the bottom and axil of the explants, incubated at 30 degreeC after being chilled (4 degree C) for 3 months, could be sprouted successfully under in vivo conditions. Healthy plants were established without any damaging symptoms of the virus. Thus, cryotherapy provides an alternative method for efficient elimination of yam viruses, and could be simultaneously used for long-term storage of yam germplasm and for the production of virus-free plants.</P>
