인공지능과 인간중심주의 ― 인공지능의 연구방법론에 대한 철학적 해석

이 논문은 우리 시대의 주제로 떠오르고 있는 인공지능의 미래에 대해 검토한다. 인공지능의 가능성과 한계에 대한 많은 철학적 논변들이 있다. 그것들은 대부분 타당하며 설득적인데, 그럼에도 불구하고 공학의 가능성을 낮춰본다는 철학적 사변의 한계, 암암리에 인간중심주의의 편견을 배면에 놓고 있다는 약점을 갖는다. 이 논문에서는 인공지능의 한계와 관련된 대표적인 두가지 철학적 쟁점, 의미 또는 의의의 문제와 학습능력의 문제를 검토하고, 그 결과를 공학적 전망과 대비시킨다. 그럼으로써 인공지능의 미래는 철학이 말하는 것과 다른 방식으로 전개될 수 있음을 강조하려 한다. 핵심주장은 인공지능의 연구란 인간지능의 모의에 불과한 것이 아니라는 것이다. 인간지능을 목표로 삼는 인공지능 연구는 과학적 또는 공학적으로 건전치 않을 뿐 아니라, 지능에 대한 보편적 또는 우주적 관점을 전개하는데 방해될 수 있다. 인간지능에 대한 절대화 내지는 신비화를 넘어서면, 인공지능과 인간의 미래에 대한 대단히 불길한 상상력의 의미를 이해할 수 있게 된다. 인공지능이 우리 인간을 압도할 수도 있다는 가능성, 그것이 진화의 자연스러운 과정일 수도 있다는 깨달음, 자연물과 인공물의 오래된 단절을 넘어섬으로써 인간종의 정의 자체가 변경되는 시점에 이르렀다는 자각 등이 비로소 실감있게 받아들여질 수 있다. In my thesis, I am examining the future of Artificial Intelligence which emerges as a contemporary topic. There are many philosophical arguments regarding the possibilities and limits of Artificial Intelligence. Most of them are valid and persuasive, but they have a serious weakness that underestimates the potentials of engineering and presupposes anthropocentrism. I enquire two central topics on the limit of A. I.: the problem of meaning and the problem of learning ability. I contrast the result of the enquire mentioned above with the vision of engineering. With that, I would like to stress the fact that the future of A. I. may turn out to be different from what philosophers envision. Main theme is that studying of A. I. is not the same with simulation work. The study of A. I., whose aim is to simulate human intelligence, is not only unsound - scientifically or technologically. It is also capable of preventing us from having a universal or cosmic point of view about intelligence. In case we overcome the absolutism and mystification of human intelligence, we can easily comprehend implications of highly unfavorable future of A. I. Eventually, we can heartily accept the possibility of the A. I. to excel human beings, and get an idea that the process might be a natural course of evolution. At this point, we can discard the old dichotomy of the natural and the artificial, and prepare to accept the change in the definition of the human species.
