Human dignity is the central value of many national constitutions and international human rights treaties. Human dignity is an important means of solving constitutional problems, such as abortion, drugs, assisted suicide and the death penalty. But the conventional understanding of human dignity has a limit for dealing with these problems. Human dignity functions as a constitutional principle. Therefore it becomes a normative foundation of all basic rights, including fundamental rights that are not enumerated in the constitution. Also it gives a guide in interpretation of constitution and statutes. Besides, it means the fundamental value of human beings and guarantees private autonomy, public autonomy and minimum provision. For people suffering extreme poverty, the guarantee of autonomy is inadequate to lead life on the bases. But at the same time, it supports community value, such as social values and states interests. However, if we like to place community value above fundamental value or autonomy, human dignity can be wrongfully used for excessive restrictions on basic rights. This goes against the aim of human dignity. Therefore, when the government limit their people`s rights and freedoms in order to realize community value, it must consider the potential harm to oneself and to others and the degree of social consensus about it.

영성은 삶의 궁극적 의미나 가치에 대한 인식과 실천과 성찰이며, 언제나 각 시대의 고유한 상황 속에서 구체적으로 표현된다. 현대 생태위기의 주요원인에는 근대 이후의 기계적 세계관에 바탕을 둔 인간중심주의가 있으며, 이를 극복하기 위해서는 생태적 세계관에 기초한 생태영성의 함양이 필요하다. 이 글은 생태영성의 기초를 성서에 놓음으로써 그리스도교 생태영성을 찾아보고, 이로써 생태의식의 고양과 함께 그리스도교에 제기된 생태적 비판에 적극적으로 응답하려고 한다, 생태영성의 특정으로는 인간과 자연 간의 밀접한 유대와 자연의 본질적 가치에 대한 깊은 인식과 실천을 들 수 있다. 성서의 핵심 주제의 하나인 “계약’과 창세기의 창조 설화나 예언서에 나타나는 인간과 자연의 밀접한 관계는 성서가 생태 영성의 원천이 될 수 있음을 보여준다. 이 점을 인식함으로써 그리스도인들은 보다 더 생태적으로 민감한 삶, 곧 단순과 겁약의 삶을 살 수 있을 것이다. pirituality is the recognition and practice of the ultimate meaning or value of life and a reflection on it, which is always concretely manifested in the proper situation of each age. At the root of the present ecological crisis is anthropocentrism based on the mechanistic world view since modem times, and we need to foster ecological spirituality grounded in the ecological world view. By grounding ecological spirituality in the Bible, this essay seeks to search for Christian ecological spirituality and thereby to respond actively to ecological criticisms raised against Christianity with the elevation of ecological awareness Ecological spirituality is characterized by a recognition and practice of the deep bond between humans and nature and the intrinsic value of nature . Covenant, one of the core biblical themes, and the intimate relationship of humans and nature found in the creation accounts of Genesis and in the Prophets show that the Bible can be a source of ecological spirituality. By recognizing this, Christians may live a more ecologically sensitive life, that is, a life of simplicity and frugality.

4대강 사업 관련 한국 교회 문헌 비평을 통한 생태 신학의 사목적 적용 연구

Four Rivers Development Project has been causing controversies until now since its planning. Korean Catholic Church has proclaimed several documents against the project, judging that it would destroy the environment. In this article, I will make a study on implications of ecological theology by criticizing four major documents that was proclaimed when the project was planned. The four documents of Korean Catholic Church well demonstrates social teachings which has developed from the Second Vatican Council to John Paul II, but cannot go beyond their limit that their perspective mainly is anthropocentric. According to those documents the four river development project is not criticized in the three views, namely ethically, profitably, and politically. These three views are integrated further with John Paul II’s ecological anthropology and Integral Ecolgoy of Laudato Si. Many local churches in the world has contributed to the development of social teachings in the Catholic Church by announcing their own documents because they became aware of the seriousness of the ecological, environmental problems. They should not just adopt or adapt the social teachings already present to them. Korean Catholic Church, especially Magisterium, should have produced documents of the higher levels with more propound contents about the ecological, environmental issues. She should have more active role in implementing the ecological movements. By both theorizing (theologizing) and acting about the ecological issues, the ecological teaching of the Church shoots into the Korean Culture and bear fruits in the perspective of the integral ecology. 4대강 사업은 계획 및 추진 초기부터 많은 쟁점을 일으켰고, 완공 이후 지금까지도 논란의 여지를 남기고 있다. 본 논고는 4대강 사업에 직접 관련된초기 문헌들 4가지를 비평함으로써 생태신학과 생태 환경에 대한 사회교리의 사목적 적용에 대한 비판적 전망을 찾아볼 것이다. 한국 교회 문헌들은 모두는 제2차 공의회 문헌에서 시작하여 교황 요한바오로 2세의 평화 메시지까지에 이르는 사회교리 발전의 한계 안에 머물고있다고 할 수 있다. 대표적으로 인간중심적 관점에서만 생태 환경 문제를 바라보는 것이다. 한국 교회의 문헌들을 크게 4대강 사업을 1) 윤리적 관점으로, 2) 인간을 위한 이익의 관점으로, 3) 정치적 관점으로 바라 보고 있다. 이런 3가지 시각은 교황 요한 바오로 2세의 생태 사상과 「찬미받으소서」의 사상으로 보충되고 확대되어야 한다. 생태 환경의 문제의 심각성을 일찌감치 자각한 많은 지역 교회들은 생태환경에 대한 지역 교회 문헌들을 발표함으로써 보편 교회의 사회교리의 발전에 이바지하였다. 지역 교회의 문헌들은 단순히 보편 교회의 문헌을 인용하는 선에 그쳐서는 안 된다. 한국 교회의 생태신학의 발전을 위해서 생태환경에 관련된 문헌이 담화문이나 선언문을 넘어서는 수준의 글로 한국 교회 교도권에서 나와야 한다. 실천적인 부분에서도 교회의 보다 적극적 역할이 있어야 한다. 생태 환경 문제 대한 이론화(신학화)와 실천, 이 두 가지 일이 함께 이루어질 때 생태 환경에 대한 교회 가르침이 통합적인 전망에서 한국 교회에 뿌리를 내리고 보다 많은 열매를 맺게 될 것이다.
