This study analyzes how to recover the autonomy of people, which has been gradually lost in life. Especially, this study analyzes the characteristics of ?other?directed type? people/society. ?Other-directed type? people lost their autonomy. This paper consists of four Parts. The first one shows the concept of 'other-directed type' people/society. The second one shows the deepening reasons of 'other-directed type' people/society. The third one shows the problem of 'other-directed type' people/society. The fourth one shows how to overcome the problem of 'other-directed type' people/society. Compulsive conformity is a major characteristics of 'Other-directed type' people. It means that they follow the life style of contemporary people blindly. Ways of thinking seems to be easily changed by other's view. People rely on the message of other, like a media, advertisement, SNS, peer's opinion. People don't know how to choose a desirable things. This situation is caused and accelerated by capitalism and the effect of media. People are forced to act in a certain way by other's pressure. Therefore people lose a power of reflective thinking and their autonomy. Without recovering these, we can not say that we live freely. Building healthy identity with the balance of other and overcoming the compulsive conformity inside contemporary people are important aspects of our lives.
