        A Comparative Study of Elementary Parents′ Recognition of Private Music Lesson between Korea and China Song FeiFei Major in Educational Administration, Department of Education, Graduate School, Changwon National University (Advised by Professor Ki-Min Kim) This study attempts to investigate the general recognition traits of elementary parents about private music lesson between Korea and China. To achieve this aim more effectively, the following sub-questions have been asked and inquired. (1) What are the realities of private music lesson of elementary students in Korea and China? (2) What do elementary parents who have let their children get a certain private music lesson think about private music lesson in Korea and China? (3) What do elementary parents who don’t have let their children get a certain private music lesson think about private music lesson in Korea and China? The subjects of this study were 757 elementary parents. Among them, 379 elementary parents have been randomly sampled in Changwon city of Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea. Originally they were 450 elementary parents, but there remained 379 except the parents who didn't answer even one question sincerely. Among them, 378 elementary parents have been randomly sampled in Linyi city of Shandong province, China. Originally they were also 450 elementary parents, but there remained 378 except the parents who didn't answer even one question sincerely. The contents of the questionnaire were about the following domains: (ⅰ) the realities of elementary private music lesson, (ⅱ) the reasons for having their children get a certain private music lesson, (ⅲ) the changes of their children after getting a certain private music lesson, (ⅳ) the effects of getting some private music lesson on schooling, (ⅴ) the would-be reasons for stopping private music lesson, and (ⅵ) the difficulties of having their children get private music lesson. Elementary parents who have let their children a certain private music lesson have answered these contents of a questionnaire. However, elementary parents who don’t have let their children a certain private music lesson have answered some different contents of a questionnaire such as excluding (ⅰ), the reasons, the changes, the effects, the would-be reasons and the difficulties of having their children get no private music lesson. Frequencies, percentage, mean, and standard deviation were calculated. And t test and λ² were mainly applied to the statistical analyses. The findings of this study may be summarized as follows: First, Korean elementary parents let their children more private music lesson than Chinese elementary parents. Both Korean and Chinese elementary parents let their children begin private music lesson in the first or second grade, and get the lesson about 2-3 years. Chinese elementary parents let their children get the private lesson of more various musical instruments including Chinese traditional instruments than Korean elementary parents. Second, generally speaking, both Korean and Chinese elementary parents who let their children get some kind of private music lesson estimated their children’s private music lesson positively. Chinese elementary parents were willing to let their children get more various private music lesson than Korean elementary parents if they had more money and composure. Third, roughly speaking, both Korean and Chinese elementary parents didn’t let their children get any kind of private music lesson for the same reasons such as their children’s no interest in music, their hope for their children’s being not musicians, etc. However, both parents were eager to let their children get some private music lesson if their children want to do some day.
