        One of the problems that humankind has not been able to solve yet but must solve is the problem of sex, that is, of sexual desire. In ancient times St. Augustine(354-430) analyzed sexual desire in term of libido. And the result of his analysis became the basis of his theory. Augustine regarded libido as negative. He encouraged the ascetic celibacy denying libido. But it is impossible that almost every person practices the ascetic celibacy he encouraged. Moreover, if most of the human being practice the ascetic celibacy, we will not be able to maintain today's civilized society because of the decrease in population. Consequentry we can say that the Augustine's insistence is a mistake. But no one has been able to fundamentally point out his mistake. Therefore it is necessary that we point out his mistake through "Unification Theology". The Augustine's theoretical ground that made him think the ascetic celibacy to be ideal was his theory of grace. Thus we must consider the theory of grace, at first. His understanding about libido became his motive of the concept of original sin. And the concept of original sin became the basis of the theory of grace. Therefore, we must analyze how he related the problem of libido to the concept of original sin and to the theory of grace. We wi11 grasp his view of marriage based on the theory of grace and compare with the Unification Theology's view of marriage. And we point out his mistake of the view of marriage. We understand how the ideal society is realized through the marriage presented by Unification Theology. Then it is neccessary for us to consider systematically the Unification Theology's view of marriage before considering the Augustine's. We can attain the Unification Theology's view of marriage from the core teaching of Unification Theology, which was disclosed to redeem humankind. God's grace to redeem humankind is also called "the blessing" in Unification Theology. We understand the Unification Theology's view of marriage through the theory of "the blessing". In Unification Theology, the ideal family realized through the blessing is called "the true family", and the ideal society is called "the kingdom of God on earth". The true family and the kingdom of God on earth are the purpose of marriage. Therefore, we will present the way bow to realize the true family and the kingdom of God on earth. The final purpose of this thesis is to prove that the kingdom of God on earth is never able to be realized through the ascetic celibacy. And it is to show that the Unification Theology's theory will establish the kingdom of God on earth through the completion of the true family.
