Ethanol (alcohol) is a neurotoxic agent and can cause many neural disease. We reported that microglial AGE-albumin has a key role in chronic ethanol-induced neurodegeneration. However, the molecular mechanism may be different in various ethanol consumption pattern. Therefore, we investigated whether microglial AGE-albumin also takes a critical role in acute ethanol administration model. Our result revealed that microglial activation and neuronal death were found in both chronic and acute model, however the correlation was different. In acute model, ethanol consumption was more influence than activated microglia. In chronic model, neuronal death and microglial activation had close correlation. Microglial AGE-albumin synthesis and receptor for AGE (RAGE) up-regulation was a common response between acute and chronic model, In chronic model, mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway is a major intracellular signaling, however, not in acute model. Taken together, our data suggest that ethanol itself is a main cause of neuronal death, and MAPK pathway is not involved as a intracellular signaling in acute ethanol consumption. To investigate the proper mechanism in various ethanol exposure will extend our knowledge of ethanol-induced neurodegeneration.

This study has been performed to find the sustainable and environment-friendly development method of abandoned mines, case of the Mungyeong abandoned mine promotion zone. First of all, we investigated the relationship between environment and development, related on the development of the abandoned mines, and studied the summary and main policy of the abandoned mine promotion zone in Mungyeong city. Then we analyzed some development cases such as the recovery project of natural environment damaged by the development of mines. We presented the environment-friendly development of abandoned mines based on this analysis. As the development of abandoned mines has been initiated to develop the alternative industry and the balanced development between the areas, we have to consider not only the development of the area, but also the preservation of the environment. The following is the summary of our research. 1. In choosing the area to be developed, we should choose the area, which has already been damaged by the previous development, so that we can recover the damaged natural environment and achieve the purpose of the development. 2. By using the site of abandoned area such as the closed school, old road, or riverside area, we should consider the efficient and fine usage the environment. 3. We should focus on the preservation to preserve and increase the opportunity of the next generation. It is the time for the environment-friendly and natural tour. 4. The development always comes with the damage in the environment. We should change our mind of the development from preserving to the creation of the environment. 5. In developing the abandoned mines; we should aim the environment-friendly development by the small-scale development using the natural resources. 6. The tourist trend has been changed from seeing and enjoying to experience. If there is an idea, we should develop the cultural tour event.
